Reconstructing your old smile has never been a hurdle today with fine advances in dental care. Implant dentistry offers teeth replacement remedies with durable and biocompatible materials.
Implants can now be designed to replace missing tooth roots and offer strong anchors to withhold an artificial tooth.
Dental implants come in the form of Titanium screws that are designed to mimic tooth roots. These implants can be surgically placed (embedded) into the jaw bone where teeth are missing to act as strong anchors for artificial teeth. Dental implants also add an advantage to your oral health as they won't need to be attached to other teeth, like bridges.
Deciding whether you need implants would require a thorough examination of your oral cavity. Suppose the patient considers wearing implants, it would be a necessity to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implants. Thin or soft bone structures won't be able to support implants, and hence patients would require a bone graft to have a stronger base. In case the patient has an insufficient bone height in the upper jaw or the sinuses are too near to each other, the patient may require a sinus lift.
After a careful examination, the dentist would begin to place the implants in place. A small incision would be made on the gums (where the tooth is missing), the bone would be prepared to receive the new Titanium based implant. Once fixated into place, the tissues surrounding the implant would be sutured in place. A healing period would be advised for a duration of four to six months after which a crown type restoration would replace the missing tooth.
